Guidance
This page provides guidance on how to apply for a Commercialisation Bridge Grant
Last updated:

Applications for the Biomedical Industry Commercialisation Bridge Grant (CBG) program are now open and will close 5pm (AWST) on Thursday 22 May 2025.  Apply online now.

The Commercialisation Bridge Grant (CBG)  is a competitive Western Australian government grant exclusively for the biomedical industry sector. This round is funded through the $8.65 million Health and Medical Life Sciences Industry Strategy Funding, which sits under the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI).

Funding

Matching grants of between $50,000 to $200,000 are available. Recipients are required to provide a net cash co-contribution of at least 50:50 applicant to this WA government funding.

For example, a project of $400,000 (total cost excluding GST) would involve the recipient providing at least a matching $200,000 of funding themselves to match the $200,000 grant. The minimum grant request is for $50,000.

Applications can be made online at any time during the year, through the publicised links. A panel of evaluators will meet at various times during the financial year, with the latest recipients being announced in due course.

For eligible, chosen recipients, funds will be made available for up to 12 months after the initial awarding of the grant - unless an extension is confirmed with JTSI - with 50% of the funding made available upfront.

The remaining (50%) funds can be claimed at two further stages of the project: a mid-term milestone (further 25%), and then at the conclusion of the project and a final acquittal report has been provided to, and approved by, JTSI (final 25%).

Categories of Funding

Biomedical Industry CBG are awarded in any of the following four categories:

  • Product Readiness
  • Team Readiness
  • Intellectual Property Readiness
  • Commercialisation Readiness.

Where you use internal or external resources in your proposed project, this should be made very clear. In acquitting the project (if approved), you will be required to provide financial evidence (such as paid invoices).

Cut-off dates

Applications for the Biomedical Industry CBG will need to be submitted between 23 April 2025 - 5pm (AWST) 22 May 2025.  Once the round closes, a panel of evaluators will meet to assess the applications.  Late applications will not be accepted.
